A quiet start

Earlier this summer was my 26th birthday. It was a quieter celebration than usual, given the circumstances of COVID-19 making everything a little quieter. FaceTime calls with friends and family took the place of the usual celebrations. Lucky for me, my partner and I were able to make some time in an otherwise busy weekday morning. We made time to enjoy coffee on the couch, and open my present (my dream All-Clad measuring cup set!). And then we even braced the cold and rain for a nice drive and a short hike along the ocean at Herring Cove Provincial Park. Eight degrees was chillier than one might hope for on a June morning, but embracing the cold rain made the temperature fall out of focus.

Apart from that, the day was quite solitude. It was a quiet start to my 26th year. I’m trying to embrace the quiet. To embrace a slower pace to everything, from mundane tasks, to the most elaborate of events. Which can be difficult when the world around us always seems to be moving at such an unsustainable pace.

Here’s to slow and quiet!
